French Tourist Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident in Canggu

A 25-year-old French tourist died at the scene of a hit-and-run accident on Jalan Raya Canggu in North Kuta, Badung, early Friday morning.

“The victim suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene,” said Ipda Putu Sukarma, Public Relations Officer for the Badung Police, on Friday afternoon, 17 January.

Collision Threw and Dragged Victim

The incident occurred around 04.30 WITA and was reported to the police at 08.00 WITA. The crash took place near Banjar Pipitan in Canggu.

At the time of the accident, the victim was riding a motorbike heading eastward when another vehicle struck from behind.

“The motorbike and the victim were thrown and dragged, while the vehicle that hit them fled the scene,” added Sukarma.

Ongoing Investigation

The police were alerted by local residents and promptly dispatched the traffic accident unit to the scene. A thorough investigation of the crash site was conducted.

The victim’s body has been taken to RSUP Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah in Denpasar. Authorities are still working to identify the hit-and-run driver.

“We have yet to identify the driver involved in the hit-and-run. The investigation is ongoing,” Sukarma stated.
