A new film festival spotlighting artificial intelligence in cinema is set to debut in Ubud on 7 May 2025, marking Bali’s entry into the growing global conversation around AI-generated storytelling.

The Bali International AI Film Festival (BIAIFF) will be a biannual event, welcoming filmmakers from around the world to showcase works that integrate or explore AI technologies in the creative process. Organizers say the festival will cover all genres and formats, from shorts to feature-length productions.

Screenings, workshops, and tech-powered storytelling

Aside from film screenings, BIAIFF will feature interactive workshops and panel discussions focused on the ethics, possibilities, and artistic frontiers of AI in film. According to the official festival page on FilmFreeway, the goal is to build a platform where creatives can “discuss, debate, and dream up” the future of cinema shaped by machine learning and generative tools.

Award categories include recognition for innovation and artistic excellence. Prizes include a lifetime license for Dehancer Pro Suite, a 1-year subscription to Blotato and its 20.000 AI credits, and access to premium mobile editing tools.

Submissions now open

Filmmakers can submit their projects via FilmFreeway, with no restriction on genre or runtime, as long as the work significantly involves artificial intelligence in its production or narrative structure.
