An American tourist has been deported from Bali after causing a disturbance and damaging property at a clinic in Pecatu, South Kuta. The 20-year-old was escorted from Indonesia following a violent outburst at Nusa Medica Klinik Pratama in the early hours of 13 April 2025.
The incident, which was captured on video and widely shared on social media, shows the tourist in a physical altercation with another foreign national inside a treatment room. He also damaged clinic property and posed a threat to other patients, prompting staff to evacuate one individual undergoing care.
Unconscious on arrival, violent upon waking
South Kuta Police Chief AKP I Komang Agus Dharmayana said the American arrived at the clinic around 05.00 WITA in an unconscious state, transported by an online taxi service along with a friend.
“When he regained consciousness, his friend approached and hugged him. But he became startled, grew aggressive, and hit his friend. A fight broke out in the examination room,” said Agus.
Despite his companion’s efforts to calm him down, the situation escalated. The foreigner reportedly began smashing clinic equipment, endangering others in the facility. Security staff quickly contacted local village security officers and police for assistance.
Police intervention and resolution
Upon arrival, police managed to subdue the man, who later acknowledged his wrongdoing and agreed to compensate for the damage. The clinic and the individual settled the matter at the South Kuta Police station.
Despite the resolution at the clinic level, Bali authorities moved swiftly to deport the tourist. Governor Wayan Koster said the decision was aimed at preserving Bali’s tourism reputation and sending a clear message to visitors to respect local laws and customs.
“This individual’s actions violated multiple provisions, including destruction of property and immigration regulations, as well as the Governor’s circular on foreign tourist conduct,” Koster stated. “Deportation was carried out immediately, and he has been blacklisted from returning to Indonesia for a set period.”
Bali government takes firm stance
The governor expressed regret over the incident, emphasizing that public health facilities must remain safe spaces.
“There is no tolerance for anyone threatening public order or safety in Bali,” he said. “Tourists are welcome in Bali, but they must respect the laws, culture, and local wisdom of the island.”
The deportation comes as part of a broader push by local officials to enforce stricter conduct rules for foreign visitors, amid growing concern over unruly tourist behavior.
