The U.S. American man who went on a rampage at a Pecatu clinic last weekend has tested positive for narcotics and admitted to having hallucinations at the time of the incident, according to Bali police.
The 27-year-old man was detained at the Denpasar Immigration Office on Sunday, a day after he caused chaos at Nusa Medica Clinic in South Kuta. During a joint press conference on Monday attended by Governor Wayan Koster, police revealed that the man’s urine test came back positive for THC and cocaine, though the levels suggested use occurred approximately five days prior to the outburst.
Kasat Reskrim Polresta Denpasar Kompol Laorens Rajamangapul Heselo said the man told officers he believed he was “in another world” while tearing through the clinic.
Incident lasted 40 minutes, damages paid in full
The man was brought to the clinic early Saturday morning by a friend via an online taxi. He had reportedly fainted and was unconscious when he arrived, but became aggressive during an attempt to resume medical treatment.
The altercation lasted for roughly 40 minutes and prompted staff to evacuate another patient. Local security and police eventually restrained the man and transported him to a hospital, where he later acknowledged his actions and agreed to settle the matter.
Police confirmed that the man has paid IDR 35 million to cover damages caused to the clinic.
Deportation underway
The man was declared in violation of both Indonesia’s Criminal Code on vandalism and immigration laws, and has been scheduled for deportation on the night of 14 April 2025 via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Governor Koster reiterated Bali’s stance on foreign visitors who fail to respect local laws, stating, “Bali is open to the world, but not to behavior that disrupts public order.”
