The Australian man who survived a deadly villa shooting in Bali’s Badung district has been placed under police protection, as authorities continue to investigate the case that left one person dead and led to the arrest of three fellow Australians.
Sanar Ghanim, who sustained minor injuries in the 14 June incident, has been relocated to a secure location under the joint supervision of local police and the Australian Consulate, Badung Police Chief M. Arif Batubara told reporters over the weekend.
Police have also increased patrols around Villa Casa Santisya 1 in Munggu Village, where the shooting unfolded, to protect Ghanim’s family and other residents.
According to Batubara, Ghanim had been scheduled to give a statement on 21 June but, on advice from his lawyer, declined to appear in person at the police station. Instead, he has requested the questioning take place at a different location.
“We’re coordinating with the Australian Consulate to determine the best course of action,” Batubara said.
The shooting resulted in the death of Zivan Radmanovic, another Australian citizen, who was reportedly shot inside a bathroom while his wife looked on. Ghanim’s wife, is also said to have witnessed the shooting directed at her husband.
Three suspects have been taken into custody and are facing further questioning in connection with the case.
