Police have named a British national identified as JAC (69) as a suspect in a domestic violence case in Sanur, South Denpasar. The elderly woman allegedly stabbed her husband, JAW (71), with a kitchen knife on Friday (22 August 2025) evening.

Stabbing Incident in Sanur

The incident occurred at around 8:40 p.m. local time on Jalan Batur Sari, Sanur, South Denpasar. According to police, JAW sustained stab wounds to his neck, waist, and thigh. He was immediately taken to a hospital for medical treatment following the attack.

Background of the Dispute

Head of Public Relations at Denpasar Police, AKP I Ketut Sukadi, stated that the case stemmed from ongoing domestic disputes between the couple. “They often argued,” Sukadi explained. However, he added that police have not yet provided details on how long the two had been married or the specific causes of their marital problems.

Suspect Determination

Following an investigation, JAC was charged under Article 44 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 23 of 2004 on the Elimination of Domestic Violence. Despite being named a suspect, police decided not to detain her. The decision was made after considering JAC’s health condition and the fact that the potential sentence carries less than five years of imprisonment.

Legal Proceedings Continue

Denpasar Police confirmed that the legal process will proceed in accordance with regulations even though JAC is not being held in custody. Meanwhile, JAW remains under medical care due to the injuries he sustained. “He has been (designated as a suspect), but not detained,” he said.
