Efforts to realize the construction of North Bali International Airport have taken another step forward. PT BIBU Panji Sakti has officially signed a memorandum of understanding with PT LEN Industri and PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI). The partnership is seen as a crucial stage in accelerating the development of an airport designed to meet international standards.
PT BIBU Panji Sakti President Director, Erwanto Sad Adiatmoko, stated that the agreement aligns with the government’s commitment to deliver a new airport capable of competing with world-class aviation hubs. He emphasized that the project aims to create a facility comparable to Singapore’s Changi Airport and Hong Kong International Airport.
“He has conveyed directly while in Denpasar, November 9, 2024, that he will build a North Bali airport with world standards. For this reason, we collaborate with PT LEN and its subsidiaries as domestic technology experts,” explained Erwanto, Saturday (13/9/2025).
Focus on Infrastructure and Human Resources
In addition to PT LEN Industri, PT Dirgantara Indonesia is also involved in the collaboration. According to Erwanto, PTDI plays an important role in supporting human resource development in the aviation sector. He added that the company is targeting the groundbreaking ceremony to take place in the near future.
“PT Dirgantara Indonesia is extraordinary. They have also collaborated with Lt. Col. Wisnu to prepare a skilled workforce in the aviation sector that will support our airport in the future. So, we complement each other,” he added.
“We will ask the President to immediately do groundbreaking, not for too long. Because time is getting faster and needs are getting more urgent. We hope that this collaboration will be a real acceleration to realize North Bali airport,” he said.
PT Dirgantara Indonesia CEO, Gita Amperiawan, confirmed that the company will actively contribute to building an aviation industry ecosystem to support the operation of an international-scale airport. A key area of focus will be the development of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services. Gita also noted that PTDI is preparing an Authorized Maintenance Training Organization (AMTO) program at Bali International Flight Academy (BIFA), located at Letkol Wisnu Airport. The program is designed to produce certified personnel in aircraft maintenance.
“As soon as I saw the North Bali International Airport project, I believed that this airport would become a big airport. So the existence of the MRO business becomes mandatory. From there, PTDI feels called to contribute. That is also the basis for the signing of the MoU between PT DI and PT BIBU Panji Sakti,” said Gita.
“This AMTO will create certified human resources for aircraft maintenance activities. We want to focus more on how to leverage human resources in Bali so that they are ready to compete in the aviation industry,” he added.
Navigation Technology and Renewable Energy
On the technology side, PT LEN Industri has expressed its commitment to contribute to the North Bali Airport project. PT LEN Industri CEO, Joga Dharma Setiawan, explained that the company’s support will cover air navigation systems, radar, and monitoring technology.
“PT LEN has experience in supporting airports in Indonesia, especially in navigation systems, navigation electronics, and aerial radar. With this competence, we see that the development of North Bali Airport is very suitable for us to support from the initial stage,” he said.
Joga added that the company’s role will extend beyond navigation equipment, including the application of sensors, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies in airport operations. He further emphasized that PT LEN also offers products and services related to renewable energy, which align with the sustainable development principles set for the project.
“From the beginning, we are ready to assist in the study of technology purchases, so that development can be synchronized and optimized. We hope that the presence of this technology will make this airport efficient, effective, and environmentally friendly,” he added.
“We happen to have products and services in the field of renewable energy. So in addition to being technology-friendly, we also want to support this airport to be environmentally friendly,” he explained.
