Prolonged heavy rainfall from Saturday, 13 December 2025, to Sunday, 14 December 2025, triggered flooding across multiple areas in Bali, resulting in one foreign national being found dead and dozens of residents and foreign tourists evacuated, according to police and disaster management officials.
Flooding affected several locations in Denpasar and Badung, with water levels in some areas reaching waist height by Sunday afternoon. Rubber boats were deployed to evacuate residents and tourists as water levels continued to rise.
Flooded Locations and Evacuations
Authorities reported severe flooding along Jalan Kunti 2 in Seminyak, Kuta, and in Perumahan Widuri Permai on Jalan Gunung Athena 2, Denpasar. Floodwaters also inundated Jalan Tangkuban Perahu in Kerobokan, Badung, where 20 residents were evacuated starting at approximately 2.30 a.m. local time.
BPBD Denpasar Secretary Agung Surya stated that two residents from Perumahan Widuri Permai were evacuated on Sunday morning, while dozens of others chose to remain in their homes. Water pumping efforts began at 8.00 a.m., but floodwaters had not fully receded due to high water discharge.
“Efforts to suck have been ongoing since earlier. It’s just not optimal,” he added.
In the Jalan Perum Buana Permai area of Denpasar, residents were able to begin cleaning their homes after floodwaters subsided.
Foreign National Found Dead
A female foreign national was found dead after being swept away by floodwaters on Jalan Krisnantara, Tibubeneng Village, North Kuta, Badung, on Sunday morning. The victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed.
PS Kasubsi Penmas Sihumas Polres Badung, Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, said the victim was swept away while attempting to cross a flooded road on a motorcycle during heavy rain in the early hours of Sunday. The bike remains trapped inside a drainage culvert and has not yet been recovered.
“The victim of a foreigner whose identity is not yet known has been dragged by flood currents while crossing Jalan Krisnantara, Tibubeneng Village, North Kuta, Badung,” said Inez in her statement, Sunday morning.
“The victim’s position was stuck between the bridge wall and the wooden gap stuck under the bridge,” he added.
Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, I Nyoman Sidakarya, said the report of a body in a culvert was received at approximately 8.05 a.m. Five SAR personnel were deployed, and evacuation was conducted under difficult conditions as water levels reached waist height. The body was evacuated to Prof Ngoerah Central General Hospital at around 10.30 a.m.
“A total of five personnel were assigned to evacuate. According to reports, the victim’s position was at the bottom and was stuck in the pipe,” said Sidakarya.
“The rainy conditions caused the water discharge to get higher and higher, so the joint SAR team with residents tried to evacuate the victims as soon as possible,” he added.
Dozens of Foreign Tourists Evacuated
Flooding also affected several villas in Denpasar, forcing dozens of foreign tourists to evacuate. Agung Surya confirmed that 20 foreign nationals had been evacuated by 1.23 p.m. local time from villas located on Jalan Gunung Athena 2.
The evacuated tourists were reported to be from several countries, including Australia, Singapore, China, and India. One Australian tourist, identified as Latai, said floodwaters at his villa reached thigh height.
Meanwhile, a Chinese tourist named Amy reported damage to electronic equipment after floodwaters entered her villa on Jalan Gunung Athena No. 3 Block C. Despite the damage, Amy and three companions chose to remain at the villa.
