Abrasion continues to affect sections of Kuta Beach, with recent observations indicating significant sand erosion along several parts of the coastline. Monitoring conducted on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, shows that the shoreline has narrowed in multiple locations, forming steep sand edges that may interfere with visitor activities.
Erosion is visible at multiple points along the beach, particularly from Pura Segara to the Balawisata Office, around the Kutabex Hotel, and in front of Beachwalk Mall. In these sections, sand loss has created uneven surfaces and sharp drops from the remaining shoreline to lower beach levels.
Uneven Erosion Patterns Observed
Field observations indicate that the abrasion does not occur evenly along the coast. Some stretches remain relatively stable, while others show pronounced sand loss. During periods of high waves, eroded sections appear to extend closer to pedestrian paths along the beach edge. This condition raises concerns about accessibility and visitors’ ability to move comfortably along the shoreline.
The formation of steep sand steps is particularly noticeable in areas frequently used by tourists for walking, resting, or taking photographs. These changes in beach structure have altered the shoreline’s typical appearance, making it a widely recognized destination in Bali.
Vendors Cite Recurring Phenomenon
A local vendor at Kuta Beach stated that abrasion is an annual phenomenon. According to the vendor, similar conditions have been observed in previous years, especially during certain seasons when wave activity increases.
The vendor also expressed doubts that the abrasion can be resolved permanently. While there have been past efforts to address the issue, including sand replenishment, these measures were described as having limited long-term impact. The added sand reportedly does not remain in place for extended periods, particularly when strong waves return.
Visitor Experiences and Observations
The effects of abrasion are also evident to visitors. Vito, a 23-year-old tourist from Malang, said the beach’s current condition has reduced comfort in some areas. He noted difficulties walking along certain sections and taking photos due to the uneven, narrow shoreline.
Despite these conditions, the visitor stated that Kuta Beach remains worth visiting because of its iconic status in Bali’s tourism landscape. The beach continues to attract both domestic and international tourists, even as physical changes to the shoreline become more apparent.
Expectations for Further Handling
The visitor also expressed hope that relevant authorities would take more serious steps to prevent the abrasion from worsening. No specific measures or official responses were detailed in the available observations, and no new handling plans were confirmed at the time of reporting.
As of December 16, 2025, abrasion remains present across several sections of Kuta Beach, with visible impacts on the shoreline’s shape and accessibility. Observations indicate that the condition persists, particularly during high-wave periods, and it continues to be monitored based on field conditions.
