A large fire destroyed 10 villas in the Uluwatu area of Pecatu Village, South Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali, during New Year’s Eve celebrations marking the transition into 2026. The fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday, January 1, 2026, and is suspected to have been caused by sparks from fireworks used during the celebration.
The Badung Regency Fire and Rescue Service reported that the incident occurred at approximately 12:47 a.m. local time. The blaze affected multiple buildings within the Villa Desa Harmonis complex, including the main lobby area. A nearby property, Villa Bilabong, was also damaged by the fire due to its close proximity to the main complex.
“The number of those burned was 10 units of villas, lobby, and Villa Bilabong,” said Suardana, Thursday morning.
Fire Broke Out Shortly After Midnight
The fire was reported shortly after the New Year began, when fireworks were being used in the surrounding area. Initial assessments by fire authorities indicated that the ignition source was likely fireworks sparks that came into contact with flammable materials within the villa complex. The fire then spread rapidly across several structures.
A total of 10 buildings were confirmed to have been damaged or destroyed by the fire. The affected area was estimated to cover approximately 10 are, contributing to the scale and intensity of the blaze. The layout of the villa complex and the number of structures involved required extensive firefighting efforts.
Multiple Fire Units Deployed
To control the fire, the Badung Fire and Rescue Service deployed seven fire engines to the scene. The units were dispatched from several operational posts, including Pos Induk BW 19, Pos Puspem BW 14, Pos Kunti BW 07 and BW 12, Pos ITDC BW 20, as well as Pos BPG BW 16 and BW 21.
Firefighters worked continuously for approximately three and a half hours to extinguish the flames. The operation involved active suppression efforts followed by cooling procedures to prevent the fire from reigniting. The extended duration of the response was attributed to the size of the affected area and the number of buildings involved.
No Casualties, Significant Material Losses
Authorities confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries resulting from the fire. All individuals in the area were reported to be safe, and no medical treatment related to the incident was recorded.
Despite the absence of casualties, the fire caused substantial material damage. The total losses resulting from the destruction of the villas and associated structures were estimated at approximately Rp 3 billion. The estimate was based on the extent of the damage observed during the initial assessment conducted by fire officials.
