
A Swiss national was robbed of a gold necklace worth more than Rp91 million in a street snatching incident in Ubud, Gianyar Regency, Bali. Police have confirmed that one of the alleged perpetrators has been arrested, while investigations are ongoing to locate a second suspect.
“The loss is approximately Rp 91,032,527,” said Temporary Officer (PS) of the Public Relations Division of the Gianyar Police, Ipda Gusti Ngurah Suardita, Monday (2/2).
Snatching Incident in Petulu, Ubud
The victim, identified as MK, a 25-year-old Swiss citizen, reported the incident to authorities after being targeted on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at around 2:00 PM Central Indonesia Time. The robbery occurred on Jalan Tirta Tawar, Banjar Kutuh Kaja, Desa Petulu, Kecamatan Ubud, Gianyar.
Based on police findings, MK was traveling along the road when two male suspects approached from behind on a motorcycle. The suspects reportedly moved alongside the victim from the right. One of the men, who was riding as a passenger, forcibly pulled the gold necklace worn by the victim until it broke, before fleeing the scene with his accomplice.
The stolen necklace was later assessed to have a value exceeding Rp91 million, representing the total loss suffered by the victim.
“After doing the action, the two people immediately left at high speed,” said Gusti.
Police Investigation and Evidence Collection
After receiving the report, police conducted a crime scene investigation and examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Officers also gathered witness statements to support the investigation.
Based on CCTV footage and information obtained during the inquiry, police traced the suspects to Desa Tianyar, Kecamatan Kubu, Kabupaten Karangasem.
Arrest of One Suspect
On Sunday, February 1, 2026, police arrested one suspect, identified by the initials KY, aged 20, at his home in Desa Tianyar. Authorities stated that KY is believed to be involved in the snatching incident.
During the arrest, police secured several items as evidence, including a black Honda PCX motorcycle without license plates, a green hoodie jacket, and a CCTV video recording linked to the case.
“Currently, one perpetrator and evidence are secured at the Ubud Police Station for further investigation,” he said.
Another suspect, identified by the initials WD, has not yet been apprehended. Police confirmed that efforts to locate and arrest the second suspect are ongoing.
Charges and Ongoing Case
KY has been charged under Article 479, paragraph 1, of the Criminal Code, with a subsidiary charge under Article 477, paragraph 1, letter g, of the Criminal Code. The charges carry a maximum penalty of up to 12 years in prison.
As of the latest update, one suspect is in custody and facing legal proceedings, while police continue to pursue the remaining suspect in connection with the January robbery.
