
An American tourist died while taking part in a trekking activity in the West Bali National Park area, Buleleng Regency, Bali Province, on Friday, January 30, 2026. The incident occurred at around 10:10 Wita in the Teluk Terima area, Banjar Dinas Teluk Terima, Sumberklampok Village, Gerokgak District.
The victim was identified as Brad Alan, a 61-year-old United States citizen. He had come to the national park to undertake a trek in the forest, according to information provided by local authorities.
“The victim was a United States citizen who was on vacation in Bali,” said Yohana, Saturday (31/1/2026).
Victim Collapsed on Forest Trail
Head of Public Relations of the Buleleng Police, Iptu Yohana Rosalin Diaz, said the victim was trekking along a forest route when he suddenly showed signs of physical distress. While on the trail, he was seen holding onto a tree trunk and struggling to breathe.
“At that time, the victim was accompanied by a guide. However, when he only traveled a distance of about 100 meters, the victim experienced shortness of breath and lost consciousness,” he said.
The trekking guide accompanying the victim immediately provided assistance, helping him sit down to rest. However, Yohana stated that the victim’s condition continued to worsen despite the initial efforts.
“A few moments later, the victim fell and was unconscious. The witness immediately contacted the TNBB to ask for evacuation assistance,” he said.
Evacuation and Medical Handling
The incident was reported to the Gerokgak Police Sector, which then coordinated with officers from West Bali National Park. Police personnel and park officers proceeded to the location to conduct emergency handling.
At approximately 10:30 WITA, the West Bali National Park response team arrived at the scene. Due to the victim’s condition and the location within the forest, the evacuation was carried out by transporting him on a stretcher out of the trekking area.
After being evacuated, the victim was taken to Melaya II Community Health Center in Jembrana Regency for medical treatment. However, based on an examination by medical personnel, the victim was declared dead while still en route to the health facility.
“The results of the initial examination from the victim’s medical personnel died due to fatigue while doing trekking activities,” added Yohana.
Coordination With Relevant Parties
Following the confirmation of death, the victim’s body was transported to Jembrana Regional General Hospital for further handling. Authorities confirmed that the hotel where the victim had been staying coordinated with the United States Consulate regarding subsequent procedures.
As of the latest information, the handling process is focused on coordination between authorities, medical services, and consular representatives. No additional details have been released regarding further actions.
“From the results of coordination, while the family stated that no autopsy or autopsy was carried out, while waiting for a decision from the victim’s family,” he concluded.
