The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Bali has deported an American citizen identified as JRG, aged 44, for misusing her visa by organizing a sexual retreat class in Seminyak, Badung. Authorities stated that JRG entered Bali on September 4, 2025, using a Visa on Arrival valid until October 4, 2025, but engaged in commercial activities that violated her permit.

“The deportation was carried out because the person concerned was proven to have abused his residence permit by holding a retreat class activity in Bali,” said Winarko as the Head of the Special Class I Immigration Office of TPI Ngurah Rai, on Thursday (19/9).

The case originated from a public report raising suspicions about her activities in the Seminyak area. The immigration intelligence and enforcement unit subsequently conducted field surveillance and online monitoring to verify the information.

Details of the Retreat Class

Investigations revealed that JRG organized an event called “intimacy mystery retreat” between September 4 and September 8, 2025, at a villa in Seminyak. The program was described as a private class teaching practices and techniques related to intimacy, emotional connection, and sexual activity, supported with various materials and equipment.

“This activity is paid and attended by a number of participants from various countries. In the activity, photos of equipment related to sexual activities were found,” he added.

Authorities noted that JRG charged participants 6,997 US dollars to attend the retreat. The classes were marketed through online platforms, social media channels, and promoted within her network of foreign nationals residing in Bali. Immigration officials did not provide details regarding the number of participants or revenue generated from the event.

Arrest and Deportation Process

On September 16, 2025, immigration officers secured JRG at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport as she was preparing to travel to Jakarta. After examination, officials determined that she had violated Article 75, Paragraph 1 of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.

As a consequence, JRG was subjected to immigration administrative measures in the form of deportation and blacklisting. The deportation was carried out on Thursday, September 18, 2025, via EVA Air with the route Denpasar–Taipei–Los Angeles.

“Every foreigner in Indonesia is obliged to comply with immigration rules and respect applicable legal norms. We will take strict action against anyone who abuses their residence permits,” he said.

Immigration’s Response

Head of Ngurah Rai Immigration, Winarko, confirmed that JRG had been promoting and running the retreat in a manner inconsistent with her visa status. He stressed that the office would continue to strengthen supervision of foreign nationals’ activities in Bali, particularly regarding the use of temporary stay permits.

According to Winarko, the case highlighted the role of both public reports and immigration monitoring systems in uncovering violations. He reiterated that commercial activities of this nature must comply with Indonesian immigration laws and regulations.

With the deportation completed and a travel ban imposed, JRG is prohibited from re-entering Indonesia. Immigration authorities have not disclosed further investigation details but emphasized their ongoing commitment to monitoring foreign citizens’ activities on the island.
