The Balai Besar Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BBMKG) Wilayah III Denpasar has forecasted that wave heights in the Badung Strait will reach up to four meters between 13 and 16 April 2025. This warning has been issued to ensure public safety, with specific emphasis on the potential risks to fishermen, boat operators, and marine tourism activities.

Warnings Issued for Multiple Regions

Cahyo Nugroho, Head of BBMKG Wilayah III, called on the general public, fishermen, and marine tourism operators to be vigilant of the high waves. “We urge the public to be aware of the potential for high waves,” Nugroho stated on Saturday in Denpasar.

In addition to the Badung Strait, waves up to four meters are also predicted in the southern Bali Strait, southern Lombok Strait, and the waters south of Bali. The northern part of Lombok Strait is expected to experience waves up to 2.5 meters.

Weather and Wind Conditions

The BBMKG also provided insights into the prevailing weather conditions. The wind pattern in the northern waters of Bali is expected to move from the east-southeast, while winds in the southern waters of Bali will shift from the southeast-southwest. Both regions will experience wind speeds up to 15 knots, which is considered significant for sea activities.

For the period from 12 to 14 April 2025, weather in Bali is expected to be partly cloudy, with potential for light to heavy rainfall in some areas of the island. The wet conditions are attributed to the ongoing convective patterns in central and eastern Indonesia.

Extreme Weather Risks

BBMKG has also cautioned the public about the possibility of extreme weather events, including flooding, landslides, and fallen trees, which could result from the ongoing weather patterns. The sea surface temperature is forecasted to be around 29-30°C, and moisture levels are expected to remain high, affecting both the lower and mid-levels of the atmosphere.

Safety Guidelines for Marine Operators

BBMKG has outlined specific guidelines for marine operators to ensure safety:

  • Fishermen should be cautious when wave heights exceed 1.25 meters and wind speeds reach more than 15 knots.
  • Tugboat operators are advised to exercise caution when winds exceed 16 knots and waves surpass 1.5 meters.
  • Ferry operators should be particularly cautious if wind speeds exceed 21 knots and waves reach more than 2.5 meters.
