The Indonesian government is exploring another round of airfare discounts for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday, following the success of last year’s price reductions during the Christmas and New Year period, according to State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir.

Building on Previous Success

“Following our success in reducing airfares by 10 percent for the Christmas and New Year holiday period during President Prabowo Subianto’s first 100 days in office, we have begun talks about a similar rebate for Eid,” Thohir stated in a ministry release on Wednesday.

Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi has also pushed for airfare reductions during Eid, citing the positive impact of the previous policy.

During the Christmas and New Year holiday period, domestic flight traffic grew by 10.3 percent year-on-year, with an average load factor of 80 percent—higher than the 5 percent growth seen during the previous year’s holiday period.

“This policy not only helped travelers but also boosted the aviation sector. We are committed to ensuring public convenience by keeping fares accessible,” Purwagandhi said.

Potential Benefits for Bali Travelers

If implemented, the policy could mean more affordable flights to and from Bali during the Eid holiday period, making it easier for residents to travel to other islands or for domestic tourists to visit Bali.

Lower airfare costs could encourage more movement between key destinations such as Lombok, Java, and Sumatra, easing travel expenses for families looking to reunite during the holiday.

With discussions now underway, the government’s decision in the coming weeks will determine whether travelers can once again benefit from discounted fares during one of Indonesia’s busiest travel periods.
