The Bali provincial government is prioritizing road construction in Denpasar and Badung starting in 2026, with Governor Wayan Koster allocating approximately Rp 5 trillion for several new road projects.

Koster emphasized that the initiative aims to address the worsening traffic congestion in these areas. “So that we don’t face total gridlock anymore,” Koster said after leading the Denpasar City anniversary ceremony at Lumintang Field, Denpasar, on Thursday, 27 February 2025.

Having just begun his second term in office, Koster explained that the funding is expected to come from a collaboration between three local governments.

In addition to road construction, the provincial government also plans to build a parking facility in Sanur and improve access to Sanur Port.

“[The infrastructure improvements in Denpasar and Badung will begin] in 2026, with funding from Bali’s provincial budget, Badung’s budget, and, hopefully, Denpasar’s budget as well,” he said.

According to Koster, the plan is not just about increasing road capacity but also improving infrastructure quality to enhance connectivity between Bali’s regencies.

“In Denpasar, new roads and underpasses will be built to connect with Badung. This includes the construction of a new road from Sunset Road to Mahendradatta, Gatot Subroto Barat to Canggu, the Ahmad Yani underpass, the Tohpati underpass, and the Akasia intersection to Padang Galak,” he explained.
