Bali’s Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported 37 weather-related disasters between 6–12 January 2025, with material losses estimated at Rp 320 million. The events, caused by heavy rainfall and strong winds, did not result in any injuries or fatalities, according to BPBD Chief I Made Rentin.

“Bali is now in the rainy season. Residents are urged to remain vigilant against heavy rainfall, which could trigger floods and landslides,” Rentin said in a statement on 13 January.

Tree Falls, Floods, and Road Damage Dominate Reports

The majority of incidents involved falling trees, with 21 locations affected. Flooding was reported at five locations, including four in Denpasar and one in Klungkung. High rainfall also damaged infrastructure, with a road in Buleleng collapsing and another in Karangasem rendered impassable.

Landslides were reported at four locations: Badung, Buleleng, Jembrana, and Klungkung. One religious shrine in Buleleng also collapsed, but no casualties were reported.

In one notable incident on 12 January, a landslide disrupted traffic on the main road connecting Klungkung and Gianyar. Heavy rain caused a clump of bamboo to slide down a 30-meter slope in Desa Tusan, Banjarangkan, Klungkung, completely blocking the road.

Vehicles traveling between Klungkung and Gianyar were forced to reroute via Jalan Bypass Ida Bagus Mantra or Tulikup.

Maritime Warnings Issued

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Bali has issued high-wave warnings for 13-16 January 2025. Wave heights in Badung Strait, southern Lombok Strait, and the southern waters of Bali are expected to range from 1.25 to 2.5 meters.

In the southern waters of Bali Strait, waves could reach 2.5 to 4 meters, posing risks to maritime activities. BMKG has urged those in the maritime sector to prioritize safety during this period.

Residents are advised to stay alert as Bali navigates the challenges of the rainy season, with further updates expected as conditions evolve.
