Bali has taken steps to enhance its digital and tourism economy by introducing a system to match international visitors’ payment habits. As more travelers rely on cashless payments rather than carrying local currency, Bank Indonesia has launched the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack in Bali to simplify transactions across the island.
The Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack is designed as an all-in-one solution that combines several services into a single package. It includes a chip-based digital wallet linked to QRIS, a SIM card with mobile data, and a local phone number.
Through this system, visitors can make payments by scanning QR codes at participating businesses, reducing the need for constant currency exchange or navigating unfamiliar payment systems. According to The Economic Times, the initiative aims to minimize the time tourists spend handling money-related logistics during their trip.
Strengthening Indonesia’s Visitor-Friendly Image
Deputi Gubernur Bank Indonesia, Fillianingsih Hendarta, stated that the initiative also seeks to reinforce Indonesia’s position as a visitor-friendly destination.
“Ease of transactions is an important part of the tourism experience in Bali,” she said during the launch.
As part of the rollout, Bank Indonesia has established a Tourism Information Center at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. The center assists arriving travelers with setting up their digital wallet and provides access to the QRIS Nusantara Tourism Guidebook.
Officials expect local businesses to benefit from faster, more transparent transactions. Although cash remains an available option for visitors, authorities plan to consistently promote the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack to ensure that tourists are informed about the service from the beginning of their stay.
QRIS Adoption Expands Across Bali
The shift toward digital payments is already visible throughout the island. QRIS usage has increased significantly, with nearly one million merchants accepting QRIS payments during the first half of 2025. Transaction volumes have grown notably over this period.
QRIS adoption has also extended beyond Bali’s popular coastal areas. Small shops in rural regions, household kiosks, and temple stalls in cultural centers such as Ubud and Penglipuran have incorporated QR code payment options. This expansion reflects a broader effort to support micro, small, and medium enterprises, which play an essential role in Bali’s tourism economy. Increased access to digital payments is expected to contribute to financial inclusion and cleaner, more traceable transactions.
Aligning With Global Travel Trends
The move toward cashless systems aligns with a wider initiative to refine the overall travel experience in Bali. As digital payment methods become standard in many countries, the introduction of the Indonesia Tourist Travel Pack positions the island in line with global traveler expectations.
