An Australian man was killed and another injured in a shooting at a villa in Bali early Saturday, in what authorities suspect was a coordinated attack by two armed men.
The Bali Regional Police said the man who died was 32 years old and died of gunshot wounds. His body was taken to Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar. The second victim, a 35-year-old Australian, was injured and is being treated at BIMC Hospital in Kuta.
The shooting took place at around 00:15 WITA at a villa on Jalan Pantai Munggu Seseh, in Mengwi, Badung.
Victim Was Shot in the Bathroom
According to police, the wife of the man who died told investigators she was asleep when she heard her husband shouting. She hid under a blanket but peeked out and saw a man wearing a bright orange jacket and a dark helmet inside the villa.
She said the man shot her husband inside the bathroom and then fled. Moments later, she heard another gunshot and the other victim shouting from another room.
She ran out and found the second man bleeding, then returned to the bathroom to check her husband’s pulse. She later saw the shooter escape the villa.
Two Suspects Believed to Be Involved
Police believe two men were involved in the attack. One suspect, who fired the shots, was wearing an orange jacket and dark helmet and was seen riding a motorbike. Witnesses reported he spoke with a strong Australian accent.
The second suspect was described as wearing a green jacket, dark face mask, and helmet, also on a motorbike, and also reportedly spoke with an Australian accent.
“The two individuals entered the victims’ villa and carried out the shooting before fleeing,” said police spokesperson Kombes Pol Ariasandy.
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive, and the investigation is ongoing. No arrests had been made as of Saturday evening.
