The Bali Provincial Legislative Council’s Special Committee on Spatial Planning, Assets, and Licensing (Pansus TRAP DPRD Bali) has confirmed the closure of both the glass lift project and the bungee jumping attraction in Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency. The decision followed findings of alleged permit and spatial planning violations at the sites.
The bungee jumping activity at Extreme Park near Kelingking Beach was considered highly extreme due to its location on the edge of a cliff. After inspecting the site, the committee ordered its suspension to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
“It’s really extreme. The activity is on the edge of a cliff. The investors are Russians. The cliff’s contour, to the naked eye, is already vulnerable to cracking and many falls. The cliffs there are windy,” said Supartha.
Alleged Continued Operations Denied
Reports surfaced that the bungee-jumping operator continued operating its business despite the closure order. Pansus TRAP Chairman I Made Supartha confirmed the reports had been checked and clarified that the attraction remains closed.
“So it was spent (booking) on the second day. Maybe a few jumps, after which it was closed again. Until now, it is still closed,” he explained on Tuesday (11/11/2025).
Supartha highlighted that Nusa Penida’s cliffs serve as Bali’s natural barrier, stressing the importance of preserving their ecological and structural integrity. He likened Nusa Penida’s cliffs to those of Pecatu in southern Bali, which act as natural protection for the island.
“Geographically, we must be grateful, given this extraordinarily unique and sacred island,” he said.
Official Recommendation Submitted to the Governor
Meanwhile, Bali DPRD Chairman Dewa Made Mahayadnya submitted a recommendation to Governor I Wayan Koster on the status of the bungee jumping site and the glass lift project. The document, delivered in a closed meeting on November 11, 2025, has not been made public.
The recommendation includes considerations about the legal status, operational safety, and environmental impact of both projects. However, the content of the recommendation has not been disclosed publicly. It remains unclear whether the closures are temporary pending compliance or will result in the full dismantling of the facilities.
Status Under Review
Both attractions in the Kelingking Beach area remain closed. The final decision now rests with the Bali Provincial Government, which will evaluate the DPRD’s recommendation before determining the next steps.
The Pansus TRAP has stated that it will continue monitoring the situation to ensure that no activities are carried out without proper authorization or safety assurance.
“The Special Committee agreement, first submit it behind closed doors to the Governor of Bali and it has been listened to (the Governor) will give a surprise. Later there will be a time when it has to be delivered. I don’t think it will take too long,” said Supartha.
