A Chinese tourist, identified as JT, has reported being raped by an ojek driver in Uluwatu, Bali, on 1 January 2025.

The incident allegedly occurred in the early hours following New Year’s celebrations at Nyang Nyang Beach.

Police are actively investigating the case.

Allegations and Initial Reports

According to the reports, at around 1:20 a.m. local time, JT and six friends left the New Year’s event.

Four of them returned to Salt Villa Ungasan, while JT and two others stayed behind, waiting for their driver.

JT eventually walked ahead to search for transportation back to Villa Casa de Kayla in Tumbak Bayuh, Mengwi.

While walking, JT noticed a motorcycle rider wearing a green jacket and helmet. The rider had just dropped off two foreign passengers. He then circled back, waved at JT, and gestured as though offering her a ride.

Feeling reassured by his earlier interaction with the foreign passengers, JT decided to board his motorcycle and provided him with the villa address. Due to poor signal reception, JT could not open Google Maps to confirm the route.

However, JT soon suspected the rider was not heading toward the villa. Concerned, she tried to call her friends but was interrupted when the driver reportedly stopped abruptly and grabbed her phone with his left hand.

Alleged Assault

According to police, the driver then escalated the situation, displaying a message on his phone that read, “I want to have sex with you, don’t scream.”

JT tried to escape but was allegedly overpowered.

The driver allegedly followed her, confiscating and discarding her phone before physically assaulting her.

Reports suggest the suspect choked JT and dragged her into nearby bushes, where the assault took place.

Afterward, the suspect reportedly demanded money from JT. When she claimed she had none, he took a diamond bracelet worth Rp 81 million.

Physical Injuries Reported

JT reportedly sustained multiple injuries, including abrasions on her neck, hands, back, legs, and genital, as well as voice hoarseness caused by the alleged choking.

Ongoing Investigation

The Bali Police are working to identify and locate the suspect. Jansen clarified that it remains unclear whether the driver was affiliated with an online ojek service or a traditional base.

“Based on the victim’s report and description, our team is pursuing the suspect, who is believed to be an ojek driver,” Jansen stated.

Police are collaborating with the operator of the ojek service JT initially contacted. According to JT’s lawyer, Joseph Nahak, the operator has indicated that the individual involved is not one of their registered partners.

Tracking the Suspect

Authorities are employing mobile phone data to track the suspect. By analyzing numbers near JT’s phone at the time of the alleged incident, investigators aim to identify potential matches.

Additionally, CCTV footage from the area has provided details about the suspect’s physical appearance and motorcycle. The suspect is described as having medium build, tan skin, and a height of approximately 168 centimeters.

This story reflects reports made by the victim and remains under investigation. Authorities have yet to confirm the details or identify the suspect.
