Chinese Tourist Swept Away at Nyang-Nyang Beach, Rescue Teams Deploy Thermal Drone in Search Efforts

A Chinese national, identified as 69-year-old Hu Xisong, was reportedly swept away by strong currents at Nyang-Nyang Beach, Pecatu, South Kuta, on Sunday morning, 16 March 2025. As of now, search and rescue teams are still trying to locate him.

Incident Details

The incident is believed to have occurred around 08.30 WITA. Witnesses stated that the victim was caught in a strong current that pulled him eastward.

“We received information about a foreign national missing after being swept away at Nyang-Nyang Beach at 09.20. We immediately deployed eight personnel to the location,” said I Nyoman Sidakarya, head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office.

Search Operation

The search operation involves personnel from the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office and Balawista lifeguards. The Search and Rescue Unit (SRU) has been divided into two areas.

The land search team is combing the coastline from Nyang-Nyang Beach to the area where the victim was last seen, covering a distance of approximately 600 meters. Meanwhile, the sea search team is using one jetski and one rubber boat.

“The land SRU is conducting a sweep from Nyang-Nyang Beach eastward, while the Balawista jetski team is searching from Muaya Beach to Nyang-Nyang Beach. The Basarnas rubber boat team is searching from Pandawa Beach to Nyang-Nyang Beach,” said Gede Surya H, the field coordinator.

Aerial Monitoring

“Aerial monitoring has also been carried out using a thermal drone, but no signs of the victim have been detected,” he added.

Search efforts remain ongoing as authorities continue to monitor the area for any developments.
