Two Dutch tourists fell into the sea while riding a motorbike on the Yellow Bridge connecting Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, Bali, on Friday, October 24, 2025. The tourists, identified as Vivianne Rozemarijn and Iris Maria Elizabeth, were traveling together when the accident occurred.

“The guardrail of the bridge was weathered and rusty, so it was not strong enough to hold the two foreigners and immediately fell into the sea,” said Nusa Penida Police Chief AKP I Ketut Kesuma Jaya.

According to local reports, the pair lost balance while crossing the narrow bridge and fell into the water below. The incident drew immediate attention from nearby residents and local officials who quickly mobilized to assist.

Swift Rescue Efforts

Emergency response teams and community members collaborated to rescue both tourists from the sea shortly after the incident. Once evacuated from the water, Rozemarijn and Elizabeth were transported to a nearby medical clinic for treatment.

Medical personnel confirmed that both tourists survived with only minor injuries. Rozemarijn sustained a cut on her left eyebrow, while Elizabeth suffered a wound on her chin and bruising on her left arm. Their conditions were reported to be stable and not life-threatening.
“We have secured the location with a police line. The condition of the bridge fence is corroded so it needs to be repaired immediately,” said Kesuma

Police Urge Caution for Motorists and Visitors

In response to the incident, local police reminded both residents and tourists to remain cautious when crossing bridges or narrow roads in the area. Authorities emphasized that extra care is essential when riding motorbikes on structures like the Yellow Bridge, which are often narrow and exposed to environmental conditions such as wind or uneven surfaces.

Officials stated that public awareness of safety procedures can play a crucial role in preventing similar accidents in the future. The police also encouraged visitors to reduce speed and ensure proper vehicle control when navigating such areas.

Coordination for Structural Repairs

Following the incident, police confirmed that coordination with relevant agencies has been initiated to address the condition of the bridge. The current structure has been described as posing a potential risk to road users due to its limited width and aging barriers.

Authorities have proposed immediate repairs and reinforcement of the bridge’s railings to enhance safety for pedestrians and motorists alike. The recommended improvements are expected to minimize the risk of accidents and ensure that both locals and tourists can travel across the bridge safely.

Current Situation and Next Steps

As of this report, both victims have received medical attention and are recovering. No further injuries were reported, and traffic in the surrounding area has returned to normal.

Local authorities have reiterated their commitment to accelerating maintenance and safety measures on public infrastructure, particularly in high-traffic tourist areas such as Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining road safety standards and adhering to cautious driving practices, especially in popular tourist destinations with limited transport infrastructure.
