The Balian bottled water factory, operated by PT Bali Agung Water in Menanga village, Karangasem, was severely damaged by a fire on 1 March 2025, leading to disruptions in production that may last several months.

No casualties were reported in the incident, but the fire destroyed most of the factory’s buildings and contents, according to Menanga village chief I Made Hendra Sagita.

“The fire engulfed almost the entire factory and its contents,” he said.

The fire broke out around 15.00 WITA and proved challenging to extinguish due to its intensity. Authorities have yet to determine the cause, but initial information suggests the flames originated inside the facility.

“Fortunately, all workers were safely evacuated,” Hendra Sagita added.

Karangasem Fire and Rescue Department head I Made Agus Busiyasa stated that the fire has been fully extinguished with assistance from Klungkung firefighters. However, the police are investigating the cause. Estimates place the financial loss at approximately 77 billion rupiah.

Months-Long Disruptions Expected

PT Bali Agung Water confirmed that the fire damaged the roof and several key facilities at the production site, resulting in temporary operational disruptions.

The company assured customers that while the recovery process is ongoing, it may take months before normal production resumes.

“We are working tirelessly to resume operations as soon as possible and are hopeful to be back and serving you again by the end of the year,” the company stated.

Balian bottled water is a widely recognized brand in Bali, and the supply chain disruption is expected to impact availability in the coming months. Customers are advised to anticipate possible shortages while the company works on restoring its production capacity.
