A major fire on Friday morning, August 15, 2025, engulfed Ulaman Eco Luxury Resort in Banjar Dukuh, Nyambu Village, Kediri District, Tabanan. Sixteen villas at the high-end property, known for its eco-friendly design and surrounding rice fields, were destroyed in the incident.
According to police reports, the fire broke out at around 09.15 Central Indonesia Time while construction crews were working on an expansion project at the resort. Although several villas had already been occupied, authorities confirmed that no guests were inside when the fire spread.
Eyewitness Account and Initial Cause
Kediri Police Chief Commissioner I Nyoman Sukadana said the fire was first noticed by a worker named Sukiman, who was installing bamboo paneling with his colleague Yanto on the first floor of villa number 11.
“At around 10 a.m., Yanto saw sparks from an electrical cable that was pinched between bamboo,” Sukadana told detikBali on Friday.
He explained that the resort’s location, surrounded by rice fields, and the use of natural building materials such as bamboo, wood, and thatch accelerated the spread of the blaze. Workers initially tried to extinguish the flames using limited equipment, but strong winds quickly carried the fire from one villa to another.
“The witness then called the fire department to immediately come to the location,” Sukadana said, adding that no casualties were reported.
Firefighting Efforts and Damage
Head of Fire Control Division IV of the Tabanan Civil Service Police Unit, I Wayan Suakta, confirmed that material losses from the fire are estimated at Rp 40 billion. He noted that no injuries or fatalities occurred.
“Six fire trucks were deployed, three from Tabanan and three from Badung,” Suakta said on Friday. He added that firefighting teams needed four hours to fully extinguish the blaze.
Although the full structural assessment has yet to be completed, initial reports indicate severe damage across the resort complex.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the fire. The resort has assured that all guests were safely evacuated and provided with alternative accommodation. Police have confirmed there were no casualties, while further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
