A tourist from India, Neha Jitendra Hariyani, died in a single-vehicle accident on Jalan Raya Sompang in Desa Bunga Mekar, Nusa Penida, Klungkung. The incident occurred in the afternoon of 26 November 2025, while she was traveling with her husband toward the well-known attraction, Broken Beach.
According to police, the 27-year-old woman was a passenger on a Yamaha Gear motorcycle driven by her husband, Nirav Mitesh Thakkar, who is 4 years younger. The couple was reportedly on their way to explore the destination when the accident occurred.
Police Statement on Loss of Control
Nusa Penida Police Chief AKP I Ketut Kesuma Jaya stated that the motorcycle is believed to have lost control before falling to the ground. He said this initial assessment was based on the conditions observed at the scene. There were no indications of other vehicles being involved.
“The police received a report at 16.30 WITA, the same day. At the scene of the incident, the victim’s motorcycle allegedly lost control and fell. This victim was riding without wearing a helmet,” explained Kesuma Jaya to detikBali, Thursday (27/11/2025).
Emergency medical personnel arrived shortly after the accident. They immediately examined the victim and confirmed that she had died at the scene. Her husband survived the incident and suffered abrasions on his left hand and the upper part of his left thigh.
Medical Handling and Transfer Plans
Following the examination, the victim’s body was transported to Klinik Griya Penida Medikal for preliminary medical procedures. It was then placed in the mortuary of RSUD Gema Santi for temporary storage.
Authorities have arranged for the body to be transferred to RS Bali Mandara the next day. The transfer is scheduled to be carried out using KMP Nusa Jaya Abadi from Pelabuhan Sampalan to Padangbai.
Local authorities noted that the transfer procedure was coordinated to ensure proper handling as the case progressed. No additional medical complications related to the surviving spouse were reported beyond the superficial injuries documented at the scene.
Authorities Urge Stricter Safety Compliance
In response to the incident, AKP Kesuma Jaya issued a reminder to all motorcycle rental providers serving tourists in Nusa Penida. He emphasized the need to ensure that customers consistently receive proper safety equipment. The reminder was delivered as part of ongoing efforts to reduce the risk of accidents involving visitors unfamiliar with local road conditions.
“We ask all rental providers to ensure that helmets are always prepared and given to tourists and vehicle users. Safety is a priority, and the use of helmets can minimize the risk of fatalities when an accident occurs,” Kesuma urged.
