
A flash flood struck several regions of Bali on Wednesday, 10 September 2025, resulting in multiple fatalities and missing persons. The incident affected Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Jembrana, where heavy water currents caused widespread damage and loss of life.
Authorities confirmed that the floodwaters not only damaged residential and commercial properties but also swept away residents, leaving families searching for missing relatives.
Confirmed Victims
- The confirmed fatalities include individuals from several regencies. In Jembrana, a woman identified as Nita Kumalasari, 23, who was two months pregnant, was found deceased after being swept away in Pengambengan Village, Negara District.
- Another resident, I Komang Oka Sudiastawa, 38, was discovered dead in Dangintukaya Village, reportedly after being electrocuted near his home during the flood.
- In Badung, a woman named Endang Cahyaning Ayu, 42, was carried away by floodwaters at Pengosari Market, Kerobokan Kaja, North Kuta. Her body was later found stranded at a villa construction site located more than two kilometers from the site of her disappearance.
- In Denpasar, police reported the discovery of a female victim, later identified as Ni Wayan Lenyod, in the Taman Pancing area. According to Denpasar Police spokesperson AKP I Ketut Sukadi, the victim’s body was initially located by a local resident before being evacuated from the river.
- Another fatality in Denpasar has been identified as Rio Saputra, 20. Authorities also confirmed the recovery of an unidentified woman in Benoa who is still undergoing formal identification.
- Structural damage also contributed to casualties. A textile shop and residence on Jalan Hassanuddin collapsed after river currents eroded its foundation. Two victims, Nadira, 47, and Khusay, 23, were confirmed deceased.
- In Gianyar, two elderly women, Ni Made Rupet, 87, and Ni Made Latip, 75, died after a wall collapsed in a landslide triggered by the flood.
Missing Persons
The Bali Regional Police confirmed that six people remain missing following the disaster. The list includes:
- Made Suwitri, (43),
- Tasnim, (54),
- Farwa Husein (32),
- Maimunah,
- Ni Ketut Merta, and
- Ni Nyoman Sari.
All recovered victims have been taken to Prof. Ngoerah Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar for identification. Police officials urged families who have lost contact with relatives during the flooding to report directly to the hospital’s Disaster Victim Identification Ante Mortem post.
Emergency Response
The Bali Regional Police, supported by the health division (Biddokes), established a missing persons complaint post at Prof. Ngoerah Sanglah General Hospital to assist families in locating relatives. According to Commissioner Ariasandhi, medical and identification teams are on standby to process reports at any time.
“We all hope that the casualties do not increase and that this natural disaster does not repeat itself,” Kombes Ariasandhy said, closing his statement with a hopeful note. This disaster serves as a reminder of how important preparedness and the spirit of togetherness are in the face of emergency situations.
The National Disaster Management Agency and the Bali Provincial Government have declared a one-week emergency disaster status for Bali in response to the floods. Search and rescue operations continue as teams work to locate missing residents while coordinating victim handling at designated facilities.
