A Japanese national identified as HS, aged 64, was found dead in his hotel room in Sanur, Denpasar, Bali, on Tuesday, September 16. The discovery was made by hotel staff after multiple attempts to contact the guest went unanswered.
The hotel, located on Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai Number 23, became the location of the incident that has drawn attention due to the still-undetermined cause of death.
“A Japanese foreigner was found dead,” said Head of the Public Relations Section (Kasi) of the Denpasar Police AKP I Ketut Sukadi in his statement, Wednesday (17/9).
Discovery by Hotel Staff
According to information provided by the authorities, the incident was first reported at approximately 14:30 WITA. A hotel cleaner attempted to access HS’s room for routine service but received no response after knocking. Concerned by the lack of communication, staff sought assistance from another employee to open the door.
When the door was forced open, HS was found lying motionless on the bed. Staff immediately notified the police about the situation.
“For this incident to ensure that the victim died, the witness contacted the 24-Hour Medical Clinic in the north of the hotel, after checking from the medical team saying that the victim had died,” said Sukadi.
Police Examination at the Scene
Denpasar Police representative Sukadi explained that officers were dispatched to the scene following the report. A preliminary inspection of the body showed no signs of irregularities or external injuries.
Authorities emphasized that the examination at the location did not indicate the presence of violence or other suspicious circumstances surrounding HS’s death.
“No signs of violence were found on the victim’s body. In the victim’s room, there were no signs of crime. The victim’s back had bruises on the corpse. From the anus and genitals, the victim excreted feces and fluids,” he said.
Cause of Death Not Yet Determined
While the absence of visible injuries has been confirmed, the exact cause of HS’s death remains undetermined. Sukadi clarified that police are not concluding whether HS may have died from illness or other medical conditions.
“It cannot be confirmed yet, because we are waiting for the results of the autopsy,” he said.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have confirmed that the autopsy is essential to establish the circumstances of HS’s passing. Until the results are available, the case remains under investigation.
Authorities have not released further details regarding HS’s background or his stay at the hotel. Updates will be provided once the autopsy findings are concluded.
