Bali Police announced the discovery of additional evidence in the investigation of an Australian national’s fatal shooting at a villa in Badung. On Monday, July 21, authorities recovered a firearm believed to be used in the incident, which occurred at Villa Casa Santisya 1 in Desa Munggu, Badung Regency.

The weapon, complete with its magazine, was found in the flow of Subak Anyelir River, located in Dauh Peken, Tabanan Regency. The discovery adds a significant development to the ongoing investigation.

“We’ve found a 9-millimeter caliber pistol, discovered by investigators in the irrigation canal, not far from the crime scene where the victim’s vehicle was found,” said Aryasandi.

“This senpi is important evidence and is the second weapon used by the perpetrator in the shooting action against foreigners. The perpetrator tried to throw the weapon into the river to eliminate the trace, but thanks to the hard work of the team in the field, evidence was found,” he explained.

Ballistic Analysis Confirms Connection to Crime Scene

According to the results of a forensic examination, two bullets found in one of the rooms at the crime scene were confirmed to be identical to the bullets and casings used for testing the recovered firearm. This conclusion was reached through ballistic testing, strengthening the link between the newly discovered weapon and the shooting that took place.

Badung Police Chief Batubara explained that the second firearm was found 15 days after the shooting and about a week after officers found the first weapon.

“The second weapon was found about 50 meters from where the first weapon was discovered,” he said.

Investigation Involving Dozens of Witnesses

To date, investigators from the Bali Regional Police have questioned 25 individuals as witnesses in relation to the case. However, law enforcement officials have not yet disclosed the motive behind the shooting. The motive remains one of the key elements under investigation as authorities work to establish a clearer picture of the events leading to the incident.

Ongoing Investigation and Forensic Efforts

Authorities continue to examine all evidence associated with the shooting. The recovery of the firearm from the river in Tabanan is expected to contribute significantly to reconstructing the timeline and nature of the crime. Investigators are also coordinating further forensic testing to explore any additional connections between suspects, weapons, and the crime scene.

Case Remains Under Active Investigation

While substantial evidence has been recovered and a number of witnesses interviewed, the Bali Police have not yet revealed any conclusions regarding the motive or possible suspects. The case remains under active investigation, with police expected to provide further updates as new findings emerge.

“We have not concluded because currently we are still conducting an investigation and investigation. It is still in the process of inspections,” he said.
