Russian Driver in Car Spelling “Bule” Hits, Kills Motorcyclist in Bali

A 24-year-old motorcyclist from Jembrana was killed after being struck by a car driven by a Russian citizen on Sunset Road, Badung, early Thursday morning.

The victim was hit at around 02.30 WITA at Kilometer 88, Sunset Road, Kuta. Police have taken the driver, a 37-year-old Russian national, into custody at the scene.

“Yes, there was an accident. The perpetrator has been secured at the scene,” said Denpasar Police Traffic Unit Chief AKP Yusuf Dwi Atmodjo when contacted on Thursday.

Incident Details

According to Yusuf, the Russian driver was operating a car with license plate B 1 ULE from east to west alongside the victim, who was riding a motorcycle without a license plate. The driver allegedly failed to exercise caution and hit the motorcyclist from behind, causing him to lose control and fall.

The victim suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“He sustained injuries to his ears and died at the location,” Yusuf said.

Investigation Underway

Authorities confirmed that the driver did not flee the scene and is undergoing questioning. Investigators are also checking whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

“We have coordinated with expert witnesses. Alcohol was found in the vehicle, but we are still waiting for test results to determine if he was intoxicated,” Yusuf added.

The road conditions at the time of the accident were clear, with light traffic and good weather. The estimated material loss from the crash is around Rp 30 million.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
