Six foreign nationals from China were involved in a physical altercation at a restaurant in the Sanur tourist area, South Denpasar, Bali. The incident occurred on Monday, 4 August 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m. local time, shortly after the tourists returned from a trip to Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency.
According to police, the individuals were divided into two groups, with four people in one group and two in the other. Both groups were seated at adjacent tables inside the restaurant. Witnesses stated that the altercation began when one group reportedly felt disturbed by the tone of voice used by the other.
“The motive for fighting was because he did not receive his voice too loud when he spoke,” said South Denpasar Police Chief AKP Agus Adi Apriyoga, on Monday (11/8/2025).
Dispute Escalates to Physical Confrontation
Police reported that after ordering their meals, members of both groups began exchanging words. The situation quickly escalated, resulting in a physical confrontation. Restaurant staff witnessed the incident and alerted authorities.
All six tourists sustained injuries, primarily bruises on their faces and hands. They were transported to Sanur International Hospital for medical treatment.
Mediation Avoids Legal Proceedings
Denpasar police confirmed that the case did not proceed to formal legal action. The decision was made after both parties agreed to resolve the matter amicably.
The peace agreement was reached through mediation facilitated by local police and representatives from the Chinese Consulate in Bali. Four individuals, identified by their initials ZQ (28), NY (28), MY (30), and DT (33), represented the parties involved in the settlement process.
“They have realized their mistake and reconciled and apologized to the Balinese people for the uproar that occurred,” he said.
Chronology of Events
Police explained that the tourists had been on a day trip to Nusa Penida earlier in the day. Upon returning to Sanur, they visited the restaurant and were seated at side-by-side tables. Shortly after placing their orders, tensions arose over the perceived tone of voice of one group, leading to verbal exchanges and ultimately a fight.
Authorities stated that no weapons were involved in the incident. The conflict was contained within the restaurant premises and concluded before police arrived on site.
Current Status
Following the mediation, both groups agreed not to pursue further legal action. Police have closed the case, citing the successful resolution between the parties.
The Denpasar police emphasized the importance of cooperation between law enforcement and foreign consular representatives in resolving disputes involving international visitors. No further updates have been issued regarding the condition of the injured individuals, though all have received medical treatment and been discharged from the hospital.
At present, the matter is considered resolved, with no pending legal or administrative proceedings.
