A traditional pinisi vessel named Sharandy of De Seas sank after being hit by strong winds in the Serangan, South Denpasar District, Denpasar City, Bali, on Saturday, 27 December. Authorities confirmed no fatalities in the incident, which occurred while repair work was underway on board.

Incident Occurred During Morning Repairs

The maritime accident occurred at approximately 10:30 WITA in the Serangan. According to information provided by crew member Kamarudin, aged 38, the vessel was undergoing maintenance at the time of the incident. Eight technicians were on board the Sharandy of De Seas conducting repair activities when strong winds struck the area.

The sudden weather conditions caused the vessel to lose stability and eventually sink. The circumstances surrounding the strength and duration of the winds were not further detailed, but the impact was sufficient to overwhelm the vessel while it was stationary in the waters.

Crew and Technicians Safely Evacuated

Following the incident, all individuals on board responded by jumping into the sea to avoid being trapped on the sinking vessel. They were assisted by a lifeboat that safely transported the crew and technicians to Serangan Beach.

Officials confirmed that all crew and workers involved were successfully evacuated without injuries or fatalities. No additional individuals were reported to be on board the vessel at the time of the sinking.

Vessel Remains Submerged at Serangan Mooring Area

As of the latest update, the Sharandy of De Seas remains submerged in the Serangan Mooring waters near Serangan Harbor. The vessel’s position has not changed since the incident; it remains underwater at the site where it sank.

No information has been released regarding potential damage to the vessel or surrounding marine facilities. Authorities have not disclosed whether the ship was carrying equipment or materials at the time of the incident beyond those related to the ongoing repair work.

Police and Maritime Authorities Coordinate Response

Following the sinking, police officers visited the scene to conduct an initial assessment. Law enforcement authorities have since coordinated with the local Syahbandar office for the Serangan working area to determine next steps regarding the incident.

Coordination efforts are focused on planning the recovery or lifting of the sunken vessel. However, no timeline or technical details regarding the salvage operation have been officially announced. Authorities have not yet released further statements on the cause beyond the impact of strong winds, nor have they provided updates on any investigation outcomes.
