The Ministry of Communication and Digital will comply with a request from the Bali provincial government to temporarily suspend telecommunication and broadcasting services across the island during Nyepi on 29 March 2025.
“In relation to Nyepi, we will issue a letter to all operators, including not only mobile service providers but also broadcasting companies, instructing them to cease operations for the day,” Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid said in Jakarta on Thursday.
The Director General of Digital Infrastructure at the ministry, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, confirmed that the service suspension would be in effect from 06.00 WITA on 29 March until 06.00 WITA the following day.
“During Nyepi, from 06.00 until 06.00 the next morning, all internet services and broadcasts will be down,” Wayan stated.
The temporary suspension of telecommunication and broadcasting services on Nyepi aims to honor Hindu adherents in Bali observing the sacred day.
Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, is marked by the observance of Catur Brata Penyepian, which consists of four prohibitions lasting for 24 hours. During this time, Hindus refrain from lighting fires, using lights or electronic devices, engaging in activities inside or outside their homes, traveling, and participating in entertainment or leisure activities.
