Two Suspects Arrested After Indian Tourist Robbed of Gold Necklace in Seminyak

A foreign national from India was robbed of a gold necklace while traveling through the Seminyak area of Badung, Bali, prompting swift action from local police that led to the arrest of two suspects within a day of the incident.

The victim, identified by the initials MT and aged 31, reported the robbery to authorities on Thursday evening, 18 December 2025. The crime occurred on Jalan Kunti I, in Kelurahan Seminyak, Kecamatan Kuta, Badung Regency.

Incident Occurred After Evening Meal

According to the Public Relations Section of the Denpasar Police, the incident occurred shortly after the victim and his wife finished dining at a restaurant in the Seminyak area. The couple was traveling together on a motorcycle, with the victim driving and his wife riding as a passenger.

While passing through Jalan Kunti I, the couple was approached by two individuals riding another motorcycle. Within moments, one of the suspects allegedly reached out and forcibly snatched a gold necklace from the victim’s neck before fleeing the scene at high speed.

The stolen necklace was reported to weigh approximately 20 grams and was estimated to be worth Rp 37,000,000.

Police Response and Investigation

Following the report, officers from Denpasar Police immediately went to the location to conduct an initial assessment and begin an investigation. Police collected information from the scene and pursued leads related to the suspects’ movements after the robbery.

Head of Public Relations for Denpasar Police, Commissioner I Ketut Sukadi, stated that the investigation progressed quickly after the report was received. Officers focused on identifying the perpetrators and tracing their whereabouts in the surrounding area.

Suspects Detained Within 24 Hours

Police confirmed that two suspects were arrested within 24 hours of the incident. The individuals were identified as KR (17) and IKR (20).

“As a result of the initial interrogation, the perpetrators admitted to having stolen from the victim to meet their daily needs,” said Ketut, Friday (19/12/2025).

Authorities apprehended the suspects near the crime scene. During the arrest, police also secured evidence related to the robbery, including the stolen necklace.

Commissioner Sukadi confirmed that both suspects are currently in police custody as the investigation continues.

Charges Filed Under the Criminal Code

Based on the investigation findings, the two suspects have been charged under Article 363 of the Indonesian Criminal Code, which addresses theft with aggravating circumstances.

Under this article, the suspects face a maximum prison sentence of up to seven years if found guilty.

Police have not released further details regarding the suspects’ backgrounds or whether additional individuals may be involved. The case remains under investigation as authorities complete the legal process and prepare the case for prosecution.
