In a bid to ease travel costs during the 2025 Eid holiday season, the Indonesian government is working to lower ticket prices across all modes of transportation.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) announced the plan during a press briefing in Jakarta on Wednesday, following a coordination meeting with five ministries.
Ticket Prices Across Modes of Transport
“We are making efforts to reduce ticket prices for air travel as well as other modes of transportation because not all regions are accessible by air,” said AHY.
He emphasized the need to ensure affordability, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing public mobility challenges during the busy Eid period.
The initiative follows a similar effort to lower airfare prices during the 2024/2025 year-end holiday season. Despite the high demand during this peak period, ticket prices were successfully reduced by approximately 10 percent. This reduction was achieved through collaboration among key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Transportation, state-owned enterprises, airlines, and Pertamina, which played a crucial role in reducing jet fuel costs.
Preparing for Increased Eid Travel Demand
The government is now gearing up for the next challenge: the anticipated surge in travel demand during Eid 2025 at the end of March.
For Bali residents planning inter-island travel during the Eid holidays, the government’s efforts could mean more affordable options for destinations like Lombok, Gili Islands, and Java. Reduced costs for ferry services or flights could incentivize trips to these nearby islands, making holiday travel more accessible for families.
