PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry has expressed its readiness to support the planned operation of water taxis in Bali. The initiative follows a decree from the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Menko IPW), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, which tasked relevant stakeholders with conducting a feasibility study on the service.
“With the spirit of serving and connecting the archipelago, ASDP wants to ensure that every sea transportation initiative can provide added value to Indonesian tourism, as well as encourage the growth of new jobs for people in tourist destinations,” said ASDP Deputy President Director Yossianis Marciano.
Government-wide Support
In a press statement in Jembrana, Bali, on Sunday, ASDP spokesperson Yossianis Marciano explained that the company’s involvement in the water taxi study is a concrete step in supporting the government’s effort to build a maritime transport ecosystem. He emphasized that both central and regional governments in Bali are backing the initiative.
Menko IPW is responsible for cross-sectoral coordination, the Ministry of Transportation oversees policy on transport systems, while the provincial and municipal governments in Bali play a role in integrating the program at the local level.
“This synergy is the key in accelerating the birth of environmentally friendly and sustainable sea transportation services,” he said.
Focus of the Feasibility Study
According to Marciano, the government has requested ASDP and InJourney Airports to prepare a comprehensive study covering business, socio-cultural, and sustainability aspects.
“The study is expected to ensure optimal benefits for communities while strengthening tourism in Bali,” he stated.
The water taxi service is considered a strategic solution to ease traffic congestion on Bali’s roads. By shifting part of the tourist flow to sea routes, congestion around key areas such as the airport could be reduced, while expanding access to faster and more convenient travel.
Economic and Tourism Potential
ASDP also noted that the water taxi system has the potential to boost tourist spending and stimulate growth among small and medium-sized enterprises in the tourism sector. Improved connectivity is expected to generate tangible benefits for the local economy.
“With faster and more comfortable transport links, there is greater potential to drive local economic activity,” Marciano said.
Business and Socio-Cultural Assessment
Rizki Dwianda, Vice President of Commercial at PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, added that the company is currently working with InJourney Airports to draft business and socio-cultural studies. These assessments are intended to ensure that the implementation of the water taxi service delivers optimal positive outcomes.
“This study is important so that every step taken really provides maximum benefits, both in job creation, new business opportunities, and increasing the income of local communities,” he said.
Next Steps
The program remains at the study stage, which will serve as the foundation for future implementation strategies. The results are expected to guide the development of smoother tourism connectivity while strengthening Bali’s maritime transport system.
