A cement truck crash in Bangli’s Kintamani district on Sunday (9 February) left three people dead after the vehicle’s brakes reportedly failed on a downhill road.

The truck, carrying 450 sacks of cement, lost control while heading south on Jalan Raya Susut-Kintamani around 09:30 WITA, police said.

The driver, 49, was unable to stop the vehicle as it veered off course, striking trees and parked vehicles before finally overturning.

Among the victims was a 41-year-old TNI officer who was riding a motorcycle when the truck hit him. A 49-year-old passerby who was standing by the roadside near a parked pickup truck was also fatally struck. The truck driver did not survive the crash.

The accident left cement scattered across the road, with police and locals working to evacuate victims amid light rain. One passenger from the pickup, 68, suffered shock but had no physical injuries.

Police believe brake failure was the cause of the accident, as the road at the crash site slopes downward.

The victims’ bodies were taken to Bangli General Hospital.
