Conflicting Narratives Reported Over FINNS Brawl: Both Sides Filed Charges, 12 Security Guards Named Suspects

A viral video showing a group of shirtless foreign nationals assaulting security personnel outside Finns Beach Club has sparked public concern.

The 26-second footage captures one tourist wielding what appears to be a parking gate barrier, while others hold wooden sticks and ropes. Bystanders are seen watching the altercation, with some shouting instructions to the security guards attempting to intervene.

Conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the incident’s origins.

Social media narratives suggest it began when the tourists refused to pay their bill, while Badung Police provided a different explanation, citing an initial altercation between a guest and security personnel.

Incident Breakdown

According to Badung Police Public Relations Officer Ipda I Putu Sukarma, the incident occurred on 11 February 2025 at evening.

A security guard reported that a foreign national identified as LD, who was seated at a daybed, became enraged after an accidental collision with a female guest at an adjacent daybed. LD allegedly responded by choking the woman.

“Security attempted to break up the altercation, but the suspect made an obscene gesture toward them,” Sukarma said on 12 February 2025.

Despite multiple warnings, the foreign guests were eventually escorted out. However, once outside in the parking area, LD allegedly resisted and struck security personnel.

As the security guard attempted to restrain LD, four other tourists reportedly intervened and began attacking security staff.

“They struck the guards indiscriminately before fleeing north towards Jalan Pantai Berawa,” Sukarma added.

Four security guards sustained injuries, including a broken lower tooth, nasal bleeding, and a head wound, while the others sustained swelling, bite marks, elbow scrapes, and facial bruising.

Counter Narrative

On 13 February, the foreign tourists filed a counter-complaint against the security guards, accusing them of assault. Bali Police subsequently took over the case.

“They both claim to be victims of assault,” said Bali Police spokesperson Kombes Pol Ariasandy on 15 February.

MR (28), an Australian national, filed the complaint, alleging that security forcibly dragged one of his friends out of the club. The group felt mistreated as paying customers, prompting them to intervene. However, they claim they were also assaulted in the ensuing scuffle.

On 15 February, MR was named a suspect and detained at Bali Police headquarters.

“Based on witness statements and evidence, MR has been charged,” Ariasandy confirmed.

Following further investigation, 12 security guards were also named as suspects after police reviewed witness testimony and CCTV footage.

“Initially, four guards were questioned by Badung Police. Later, 11 more were summoned. After the case review, 12 security personnel were charged,” Ariasandy stated on 18 February.

The viral video reportedly captured only the final moments of the altercation. Additional evidence allegedly indicates that security staff engaged in excessive force against the foreign tourists.

“The designation of suspects is based on evidence and investigative findings. While 12 have been charged, the number could increase,” Ariasandy added.

Despite the charges against the security personnel, MR’s suspect status remains unchanged, as the cases are being treated separately. Bali Police assert that all legal proceedings are following standard procedures.

“One case involves a detained foreign national, while the other pertains to security personnel being investigated based on the foreign national’s report,” Ariasandy concluded.
