PT BIBU Panji Sakti has officially presented the design of the planned North Bali Airport in Kubutambahan, Buleleng. The project adopts the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmony among humans, with God, with others, and with nature.

Hardy, a representative of the developer, explained that the design highlights both advanced technology and cultural meaning. The airport is planned not only as a transportation hub but also as a facility that reflects Balinese identity.

“We translate this philosophy concretely into spatial planning, material selection, and integration of an international airport with Buleleng’s mesmerizing natural landscape,” said CEO of Alien Design Consultant (Alien DC), Hardyanthony Wiratama, on Wednesday (24/9).

“We want this airport to not only be a modern gateway that connects Bali with the world, but also a space that lives and breathes with the spirit of Bali,” he said.

Modern and Sustainable Features

The design combines futuristic architecture with Balinese elements. The passenger terminal will utilize renewable energy and employ natural ventilation, while green landscaping will incorporate views of the mountain and sea from the Buleleng coast.

The airport is projected to serve over 20 million passengers annually, with potential expansion to 50 million. Two 3,600-meter runways are planned to support wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777.

Passenger and Cargo Facilities

The main passenger terminal will occupy an area of 200,000 square meters. Additionally, a modern cargo terminal is planned, with a projected handling capacity of up to 250,000 tons per year.

Beyond serving as an international connectivity hub and supporting tourism, the facility is also expected to become a strategic logistics center. The airport is planned to strengthen national trade routes and improve food security through faster agricultural distribution.

Economic Impact and Employment

The construction of the airport is expected to generate employment for over 200,000 people, both directly and indirectly. PT BIBU Panji Sakti projects that the airport’s operation will significantly contribute to the development of North Bali tourism, expand market access for local products, and create new investment opportunities across various sectors, including hospitality, transportation, and the creative economy.

“Today’s design launch shows that we are ready. Now it is only a matter of waiting for the time for groundbreaking so that the operational target in 2028 can be achieved. If you want to pursue that target, 2025 must be groundbreaking. Hopefully in the next 1 to 2 months it can be implemented,” said Erwanto.

First-of-its-Kind “Artport” Concept

Erwanto Sad Adiatmoko, President Director of PT BIBU Panji Sakti, emphasized that the project is not limited to developing an airport but also introduces a new concept referred to as an “artport.”

“This is not only an airport but an artport. It will be the first concept of its kind in the world. Bali is renowned for its culture, and that is what we are presenting. From the moment passengers land, they will experience Balinese nuances. Every corner will showcase Balinese culture, including gamelan music, painting, and dance,” Erwanto stated.
