A fire broke out at the warehouse of meat supplier Oz Britts on Jalan Sunset Road, Kuta, Badung, around 16.00 WITA on Thursday, 22 May 2025, destroying large quantities of stock and severely damaging the facility.

The warehouse, which served as both a production and storage site for various meats, was quickly engulfed by flames. According to the Badung Fire Department, hundreds of quintals of meat were lost in the blaze.

“We arrived by 16.10 WITA with 11 fire trucks,” said I Kadek Budana, a platoon commander at the Badung Fire Department, when met at the scene.

Fire spread rapidly through closed rooms

While no injuries were reported, the material losses were extensive. The fire had already grown significantly by the time firefighters arrived, and the layout of the facility posed challenges.

“Because many of the rooms were enclosed, it was difficult for us to access them during the firefighting process. Many of them were completely burned. Only two of the five storage rooms were saved,” Budana said.

The fire scorched the meat-smoking and storage rooms, stretching from the western to the eastern end of the building. All the meat stored in five rooms—chicken, beef, and pork—was destroyed.

Fire crews managed to bring the blaze under control nearly two hours after receiving the alert.

As of 17.30 WITA, only a few personnel remained to cool the site. The rooms were dark, and smoke continued to billow from the south-facing warehouse doors.

Employee recalls moment smoke was spotted

Matius Do Nascimento Pires, an Oz Britts employee, said the facility had been operating since 09.00 WITA that morning, with meat-smoking activities taking place in the westernmost room. He said the process did not involve open flames.

“It usually runs until the evening. It was in the far west room,” he said.

Matius said he was unaware of what caused the fire but heard a colleague shouting when smoke was spotted.

“One of the workers yelled that there was smoke. All the chicken, beef, pork—everything is gone,” he added.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
