An electric beach-cleaning robot named BeBot has begun scouring the shoreline in front of FINNS Beach Club, sifting through sand to extract cigarette butts, plastic fragments, and bottle caps — debris often missed by human eyes.
Brought in as part of the club’s environmental sustainability efforts, the device marks a small but symbolic leap in Bali’s growing fight against coastal pollution.
Manufactured by Searial Cleaners, BeBot is powered by electricity and solar panels. According to the company, the robot emits no carbon, makes no noise, and digs up to 10 centimeters into the sand to extract waste.
“This machine is used to clean the beach area in front of our property and also up to the vicinity of Pura Perancak,” said Abdul Manaf, ESG Manager at FINNS Bali, on 14 May.
The robot operates for about two and a half hours daily, depending on tides and weather conditions. Its presence on the beach is easy to miss — it moves low and slowly, combing the shore in near silence, collecting what beachgoers often leave behind.
By automating the cleanup, Manaf said, BeBot is meant to boost efficiency and create a more comfortable experience for visitors.
“We hope this becomes an inspiration for other tourism operators to help maintain clean coastal environments,” he added.
