Nigerian Investor Arrested After Allegedly Snatching German Tourist’s Phone in Bali

A Nigerian citizen identified by the initials CCI, 35, was arrested by police in connection with a case of theft with violence in North Kuta, Badung, Bali. The incident took place on Saturday, 8 September 2025, at approximately 18.30 WITA, when a German tourist, EZ, 23, reported having her mobile phone forcibly taken on Jalan Tegal Cupek.

“This is a new mode. There are foreigners who carry out robbery activities in the North Kuta area. The evidence is that the iPhone 15 Pro Max is also a foreigner,” said the North Kuta Police Chief, Kompol I Ketut Agus Pasek Sudina, to reporters on Tuesday (16/9/2025).

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the report, police conducted a series of investigative measures to track down the alleged perpetrator. On Saturday, 14 September 2025, officers located and arrested the suspect at his residence in Dalung Village, North Kuta District.

The suspect, who is described as an investor in his home country, is currently under police custody. Officers are continuing their examination to determine whether other individuals may have been involved in the case.

Legal Provisions

Authorities confirmed that the suspect has been charged under Article 362 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning theft. The article carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment if the allegations are proven in court.

“We are still investigating whether he had a plot or he did it more than once. Then, is this his livelihood here. We will develop it,” said Sudina.

Ongoing Examination

Police are continuing to question the suspect and gather additional evidence related to the case. At present, there has been no confirmation of other suspects linked to the incident. Investigators have stated that the inquiry remains active and further developments will be disclosed once verified.

As of now, CCI remains in detention while authorities proceed with their investigation. The case is being handled by North Kuta Police, who have reiterated their commitment to resolving the matter in accordance with applicable legal procedures.
