I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Badung, Bali, experienced a temporary power outage on Friday evening, October 10, 2025. The incident disrupted several areas of the airport and required immediate technical action from both airport management and state electricity provider PT PLN (Persero).

The outage began at approximately 6:13 p.m. local time and was caused by a decrease in electrical load affecting two of the five active feeders supplying the international terminal. The issue resulted in a short-term interruption before full power was restored about an hour later.

PLN Identifies Cause and Restores Power

PT PLN Unit Induk Distribusi (UID) Bali reported that the disturbance occurred due to a drop in load on two feeders connected to the international terminal. The electrical system supplying the airport operates through five active feeders designed for a high level of reliability.

Power to the airport was fully restored after technical adjustments were made. PLN stated that coordination between the company and airport authorities has been strengthened to maintain the stability and reliability of the airport’s electricity network.

“Our team immediately coordinated and ensured that supplies could be restored immediately. At 21.00 WITA, all electricity supply in the Ngurah Rai Airport area has returned to normal and is currently operating stable,” said Eric as reported by detikbali, Saturday (11/10).

Airport Management Confirms Restoration

Airport management confirmed that technical teams immediately conducted tracing and repair procedures following the outage. The electricity flow was fully restored at 7:18 p.m. local time.

The airport operator issued an apology for the disruption and acknowledged the quick response that allowed normal operations to resume shortly after the incident.

“In terms of PLN’s electricity system, the entire network is in a safe condition and there are no disturbances. However, we continue to conduct quick checks in the field to ensure that all supply flows run normally,” said Eric.

He further highlighted that PLN continues to strengthen coordination with airport authorities to maintain the stability of the electrical network serving the area.

“We are committed to maintaining the reliability of the electricity system in all vital national objects, including airports. Coordination and preparedness of officers are the key in ensuring that services remain optimal,” said Eric.

Airport Management Responds and Apologizes

The General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, also issued a statement following the incident. He expressed apologies for the temporary disruption and confirmed that the airport’s technical team responded immediately after the outage was detected.

“We apologize to all airport service users for the inconvenience that occurred. We can convey that on Friday (10/10) at 18.13 WITA there was an electrical outage at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport,” said Syaugi in his written statement, Friday (10/10) night.

Ensuring Reliability for a Vital National Facility

PT PLN emphasized that I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is classified as a national vital object and serves as a central hub for Bali’s economic activities and international connectivity. As such, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply to the airport remains a priority.

PLN continues to monitor the power system serving the airport and to coordinate with relevant authorities to minimize the risk of future interruptions.
