Heavy rain and strong winds hit Bali on 19 March 2025, toppling trees, damaging structures, and injuring at least one person. Wind speeds reached 22 km/h, causing widespread disruption across several regencies.

Damage to Temples and Buildings

In Klungkung, Pura Watu Klotok sustained heavy damage as strong winds brought down the bale kulkul, bale pesantian, and bale gong.

The falling bale gong also destroyed the candi bentar in the temple’s central courtyard. At Pura Pujut Gempel in Desa Kusamba, the bale pesandekan collapsed under the force of the wind.

Kadek Puyasa, a local resident, relayed information from temple caretakers, stating that gusts from the south took down structures up to six meters high.

This is not the first time strong winds have impacted Pura Watu Klotok, which sits near the coast and has previously suffered storm damage.

Trees Down, Roads Blocked

The Bali Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded 20 fallen trees across Karangasem, Badung, and Jembrana, with Karangasem experiencing the highest number. A landslide was also reported in Tabanan.

In Klungkung, fallen trees blocked roads and damaged buildings. A tree collapsed onto a shop in Setra Koripan Tengah, while another struck a house in Desa Kamasan.

In Nusa Penida, a fallen branch hit a parked pickup truck in Desa Sakti, though the vehicle sustained only minor damage.

Injury Reported in Karangasem

A 75-year-old woman, Ni Nyoman Rampyak, was injured when a palm tree fell on her home in Banjar Dinas Tekad Sabuh, Desa Duda Utara. She was taken to RSUD Karangasem for treatment.

Authorities Urge Caution

Authorities warned residents to stay alert, with extreme weather expected to continue. BPBD Klungkung chief Putu Widiada advised securing loose structures, clearing drainage systems, and reporting hazards to local officials.

Despite significant damage, no fatalities have been reported. Authorities continue to assess and respond to the aftermath.
