A male foreign national, reportedly 21 years old, caused a disturbance and shattered the glass door of a shop in Kerobokan Kaja, North Kuta, Badung, Bali, on 23 February 2025. The incident occurred as he attempted to track his lost phone using Google Maps.

Authorities have not confirmed the suspect’s nationality, with mixed reports identifying him as either Irish or Egyptian.

Chronology

According to North Kuta Police, the suspect approached a local resident, Ni Putu Mariani, 43, who owns the building, at around 11:30 WITA.

He showed her a printed map from Google Maps indicating the location of his missing phone.

Mariani informed the suspect that he was at the wrong location and directed him further north based on the coordinates.

She then went inside her house, only to hear the sound of glass shattering moments later.

Upon investigation, Mariani and her relatives discovered that the glass door of her rented shop had been smashed.

“The suspect damaged the glass door by striking it with a piece of wood until it shattered,” said Badung Police Public Relations Officer Iptu I Putu Sukarma on 24 February 2025.

Mariani, with assistance from locals, restrained the suspect while notifying the North Kuta Police.

Officers arrived shortly after and took the suspect into custody for further investigation.
