
The Criminal Investigation Unit of Nusa Penida Police has arrested an 18-year-old man suspected of stealing €400, equivalent to approximately Rp8 million, from a Slovakian tourist staying in a guesthouse in Sakti Village, Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency, Bali.
According to Tempo’s report, the theft occurred on Sunday, October 5, 2025. The case came to light after a formal complaint was filed by the guesthouse owner, identified as I Wayan Sujana, who reported that one of his guests, Slovakian national Lukas Baranek, had lost a significant amount of money during his stay.
“According to the victim’s statement, when he left the room, it was in a mess. However, upon returning from the trip, the room was clean and tidy, while the cash had disappeared,” said Nusa Penida Police Chief Adjunct Commissioner I Ketut Kesuma Jaya in an official statement on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
Report Triggers Police Action
Following the report, the Nusa Penida Police Chief instructed the Criminal Investigation Unit to conduct an immediate investigation. Officers visited the crime scene to collect evidence and question potential witnesses. Based on preliminary findings, investigators began tracking several individuals who were suspected of being involved in the theft.
Through this follow-up, police identified a potential suspect known by the initials I.K.A.P., an 18-year-old resident of Banjar Angas, Klumpu Village, Nusa Penida District.
Arrest and Confession
The suspect was apprehended at his residence one day after the incident. During questioning, I.K.A.P. reportedly admitted to stealing the money from the Slovakian guest. He also handed over the stolen euros as evidence to law enforcement officers.
Authorities have not released additional details about the suspect’s motive or whether any accomplices were involved. The police continue to handle the case in accordance with standard legal procedures.
Evidence Secured and Case Ongoing
The Nusa Penida Police have secured the recovered euros as material evidence. The suspect remains in custody for further examination. Law enforcement officials are expected to proceed with the legal process after completing the investigation and interrogation stages.
At present, no further information has been disclosed regarding the formal charges or the court process. The police have stated that all investigative steps are being conducted in accordance with applicable laws and procedures to ensure transparency in the handling of the case. “Currently, the perpetrator, along with the evidenc,e has been secured at the Nusa Penida Police Station for further legal proceedings,” I Ketut Kesuma Jaya added.
